History
Holy Spirit Croydon was officially opened on in December 2004 by Premier Bob Carr, NSW Health Minister Morris Iemma and blessed by His Eminence George Cardinal Pell, Archbishop of Sydney.
A $24 million development on the former Western Suburbs Hospital site, Holy Spirit Croydon was Catholic Healthcare's first residential aged care community built on a greenfield site.
The former Western Suburbs Hospital site was decommissioned in 1994 and redeveloped through what was then the NSW's largest public/private health initiative. The partnership was between Catholic Healthcare, Central Sydney Area Health Services (CSAHS) and Bovis Lend Lease.
Under the partnership, Catholic Healthcare provides aged care services through Holy Spirit Croydon and CSAHS provides community services through its new purpose-built Croydon Health Centre. CSAHS contributed $7.5 million to the development of three Holy Spirit Croydon high care houses. These houses were built to cater to the psycho-geriatric and dementia -specific needs of CSAHS' patients.
